The Shade Isle Campaign
Deputy Vice-Mayor Fruben Flinthelm is a kingsdwarf in the service of Bjornstraand of Dämmendell, and the younger brother of the king’s bodyguard, Fundin Flinthelm. Fruben is under constant pressure to hold the town of Dwerport together, deal with the Dolhemian naval blockade, and solve the former mayor’s murder, and he’s not doing a very good job of coping with (or hiding) the stress. Constantly frazzled, he speaks quickly—he’s too busy for niceties like conversation—and stutters a bit. He also feels the need to constantly watch his own back; after all, somebody wanted Mayor Danver dead for a reason, so who’s to say they won’t come for him too?
In the autumn of 916, when Baroness Skaadi attacked Dwerport and implemented marital law, she took Fruben prisoner and kept him chained up in the basement of the mayor’s manor. The adventuring company, posing as emissaries from Shade Abbey, convinced Skaadi to ransom Fruben back to King Bjornstraand; in this manner, they freed Fruben (and helped the dwarves to pay the witless baroness in fool’s gold). Now Fruben is back in Dämmendell; he has not resumed his post in Dwerport, the king having elected to give the job to Matriarch Garavel instead.
