Hobgoblins are larger, meaner relatives of goblins. They were bred long ago from the mingled blood of goblins and either men or ogres. Because of their humanish ancestry, hobgoblins are unaffected by sunlight, and they can march great distances at speed without tiring. In combat, hobgoblins are able to use the same sorts of large weapons as men, and they have a remarkable ability to ignore pain from wounds that they suffer.

Hobgoblins are often found among goblin tribes; they love to boss around and beat up their smaller kindred. In the goblin tongue (Rukhish), hobgoblins are holcs or (as an entire race) the hlokka-hai.
